Put the song on before you start, the moment you hear the sound of thunder on the track, you know your in for something a little dark. Alice is married to James Warrant, upstanding citizen of the small town Mississippi they live in with their two children. Unfortunately, James likes to drink and womanize and he isn’t afraid to raise a hand when he thinks Alice needs it. She’s in denial for such a long time until a breath of fresh Texas air breezes into town in the form of the new Sheriff. Things change dramatically when they can’t control their attraction to each other and an affair begins. All it takes though is one wild August storm to change their worlds around. He is not exactly sure what that is, but as the story goes on, you see that he is drawn to the myserious new girl and all of her quirks. His constant companion throughout all of this is his online blogging companion, Ordinary_girl, who turns out not to be so ordinary. At 16 chapters into this story, the chemistry between the B&E incarnations in this book is complicated and combustible. This story is wonderfully detailed, and the author is a talented master of revealing bit by bit of the conflict until everything clicks into place.

Now for my mindless drabble. In the midst of all the Edward and Bella falling in love in every which way possible or the raving madness of Tanya or the bitchiness of Rosalie or the annoying antic of Mike Newton, there’s a group of kids down the road who tend to get forgotten, pushed aside like yesterdays leftovers. Those kids are the pack members, while in the series we don’t get to see too much of them, the glory of fanfic comes alive. Authors are able to play with them, mold them to their own and while most authors who drabble in all things hot and large (the boys ladies, the boys!) tend to go with everyone’s favorite pairing of Quil and little Claire, Miztrezboo has graciously taken the ENTIRE pack under her wing and created something of epic proportion.

Short Stuff follows the journey of Jared and Kim, Kim and Jared, Short Stuff and Pouty Pants (sorry got ahead of myself) starting off the one day in Spanish when Jared “first” laid eyes on Kim and his life got turn upside down, through all the vampire drama that surrounds the pack, to their eventual happily ever after. Miztrezboo takes pride in her stories and takes the time to weave all the little details from story to story. She channels her love for the pack and produces epic-ness that is A Photograph, Short Stuff and Teach Me. The series gives us, the readers, a glimpse of what life living with the pack could be like.

So exit out of the cliché Edward and Bella whirlwind love stories we all love and take a walk on the wild side of things. Find out what it’s like to be touched by something warm, versus something ice cold. :D
